FRAGRANCES, SAFETY, AND TESTING

FRAGRANCES, SAFETY, TESTING

The preamble:

Monat is the #1 premium haircare line in the world (and this is not based on opinion, it's based on statistics i.e sales and return rate), the only anti-aging haircare on the planet that is clinically proven to promote new hair growth and density while repairing your hair to be healthier and stronger from the inside out.

We have a medical board consisting of dermatologists, a trichologist, an MD who focuses on total body anti-aging and an ophthalmic surgeon. Searching globally for the world’s most effective natural ingredients and continuing its proven groundbreaking application of science and technology, our team of researchers and scientists developed four key advanced hair technologies as the basis for optimal scalp and hair health.

Harnessing the natural power of revitalising botanical oils, nutrient-rich exotic fruits, plant-based stem cells and a rejuvenating exclusive peptide, Modern Nature offers the most advanced approach to anti-aging haircare available today.

Clinically tested and approved by dermatologists and ophthalmologists, Modern Nature skincare products are naturally based, vegan, and leaping bunny certified. So not only can you enjoy confidence in your hair, but also in the knowledge that you’re using safe and safely developed products.

All MONAT formulations are clinically safety-tested by independent labs to ensure they do not promote irritation. We formulate our products to comply with the highest standards across the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Australian law considers any substance or preparation intended for placement in contact with any part of the human body as a cosmetic product. This includes personal care, skincare, haircare and make-up, and other cosmetic products. There are two main regulatory bodies managing cosmetics in Australia. Cosmetic products are regulated by the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS).

Businesses that import cosmetics must register their business with AICIS, and all ingredients contained in a cosmetic, before importing the products into Australia. Which, of course, MONAT is registered with. Cosmetic product labelling standards or product safety are regulated by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). Cosmetic products that make therapeutic claims are regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Monat do not make Therapeutic or medical claims in regards to their products.

FRAGRANCES

Monat does use a safe fragrance in their range - it contains NO phthalates (hormone disruptors) or anything unsafe. It is in line with the European council and the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) for fragrances and is a mix of mostly natural and some safe synthetics. More about IFRA here

IFRA Standards: The IFRA Standards ban, limit or set criteria for the use of certain ingredients, based on scientific evidence and consumer insights. The Standards are compulsory for all IFRA members – who produce around 80 per cent of the global volume of fragrance.

Index of restricted, prohibited or controlled ingredients: HERE

Full IFRA Standards up to and including the 50th amendment: HERE

Monat has passed all the European council testing phases with flying colours. During testing there is obviously full disclosure to meet the requirements, but it's not a requirement under USA guidelines to disclose every single percentage on the packaging (Monat is manufactured in the USA). However, fragrance is always listed close to last, if not last. Monat does not use ANY harmful fragrances.

From Deverne Augustus (Monat MP, hairdresser and chemist):

"MONAT's proprietary formulations contain a combination of non-hazardous natural and safe synthetic fragrances. Fragrances are made from both natural and synthetic ingredients added to enhance the aromatic experience. All the MONAT formulations (with fragrance included) have been clinically tested for safety to ensure that they do not promote irritation or allergy responses.

The fragrances used in MONAT’s formulations have ingredients that adhere to the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) and RIFM (Research Institute of Fragrance Materials) standards for safety.

The IFRA Standards form the basis for the globally accepted and recognized risk management system for the safe use of fragrance ingredients and are part of the IFRA Code of Practice. This is the self-regulating system of the industry, based on risk assessments carried out by an independent Expert Panel.

The purpose of the RIFM safety assessment is to assure the safe use of fragrance materials in consumer products. Assessments of the data supporting the safe use of fragrance materials follow the updated Criteria Document. The Criteria Document provides guidance on conducting safety assessments and is designed to incorporate the best science to appropriately evaluate fragrance ingredients using the latest testing strategies and methods."
